$10,000 Rimfire Build - Inside MDT

I was browsing my YouTube feed recently and saw a video titled “How Good Is A $10,000 Rimfire Rifle?” courtesy of our very own Ryan McLean. Curiosity engaged, I immediately had two questions: What does it take to build a $10,000 bolt-action rimfire rifle? How accurate is a $10,000 bolt-action at 50 yards and at distance?

To answer my first question, what constitutes a $10,000 Rimfire Rifle? For the Chassis, Ryan chose the new MDT ACC Elite Chassis System. Mated to the chassis is Vudoo 360 barreled action. Attached to the barrel is a tuner from Insight Arms, and atop the action is a Vortex Razor Gen 3 secured via an MDT One Piece Mount. To ensure level, Ryan chose the LRA electronic level. For added stability, Ryan added some weights, Baker Wings, MDT CKYE-Pod, and an MDT Control Bridge, which doubles as a grip and mirage shield. MDT Vibration Dampers were added to the buttstock to mitigate vibration.

For extra elevation during the long-range portions, Ryan attached a Charlie TARAC periscope to the MDT Control Bridge. The Charlie TARAC can be configured for a fixed amount of additional MILS or Minutes and give an end user an immediate 20, 30, or up to 250 MILS of elevation adjustment, depending on the configuration. The Charlie TARAC was designed for ELR shooting and was used by the Canadian JTF2 team when they made their 2.2-mile shot during the GWOT.

During accuracy testing, Ryan achieved a 0.604 MOA ten-shot group and then shot match sticks and Tic Tacs with ease at 50 yards. Following the 50-yard accuracy test, Ryan ran some barricade drills. The rifle would be perfect for NRL 22 and training for PRS-style competition. Simply swapping out the barreled action for a Remington 700-style centerfire would allow this rifle to compete in PRS or NRL centerfire disciplines.
