MR MEATSHOWER: MDT XRS 1 Year Review

In Canada, long-range and precision rifle shooting is the last remaining true shooting competition. Why? Because the government has severely restricted and limited individuals' firearm rights (for Americans, remember, Canada doesn’t have a Second Amendment). So, with long-range shooting being so popular, you need something better than the flimsy, polymer stock found on most entry-level rifles. That’s where Mr. MeatShower provides a one-year review of the MDT XRS chassis in a recent video.

THE MDT XRS CHASSIS

Mr. Meat Shower has been using an MDT XRS Chassis for over a year, putting about 800 rounds through it. It’s been field-tested at MDT’s Midsummer Madness event and during a precision rifle course hosted by OFFSPECWAR. After practical use in training and competition settings, it has proven to be a reliable and adaptable platform.

The XRS is packed with practical features. Up front, the forend includes three M-LOK slots on each side, with additional M-LOK slots on the bottom—ideal for mounting an ARCA rail or other accessories. The forearm channel can also accept internal weights, allowing shooters to fine-tune the rifle’s balance. A sling stud adds further versatility. Mr. MeatShower added an MDT Oryx bipod.

Just ahead of the magazine well sits a large, well-defined barricade stop. It’s perfectly suited for PRS/NRL-style competition, providing solid support on obstacles and props. The ambidextrous magazine release is another helpful feature, especially for left-handed shooters.

The XRS comes with two interchangeable rubber pistol grips: a traditional angled grip and a 90-degree vertical grip. Both are comfortable and let shooters customize ergonomics to their liking. Thumb rests on both sides of the grip further improve control and consistency behind the rifle.

The stock is adjustable for comb height, while the length of pull is set using spacers. This ensures a proper fit for a wide range of shooters. MDT also offers spacers that double as weight to help balance the rifle. The chassis is compatible with AICS-pattern magazines, a widely used and proven standard (and much better than proprietary ones).

The chassis itself combines an aluminum core with a durable polymer exterior. This hybrid construction delivers rigidity and strength while keeping costs more accessible than many all-metal chassis systems.

COMPETITION

Mr. MeatShower offers footage of the MDT Midsummer Classic to demonstrate how the XRS performs in a competition setting. Paired with the Oryx bipod, it handles stages confidently and reliably—even for a novice shooter. The main point is simple: you don’t need the most expensive gear to compete effectively and have fun. The XRS provides a stable, capable foundation without breaking the bank.

WHY GET IT?

Two standout advantages are modularity and The XRS adapts easily to a wide range of shooting disciplines, from precision rifle competition to hunting. MDT offers accessories such as additional weights and an extended ARCA-integrated enclosed forend, allowing shooters to scale the system to specific needs. Want a lighter hunting setup? Swap a few components. Need a competition-ready configuration? Add weights and rails.

The MDT XRS is a versatile chassis system in a traditional form-factor.

ZOOMING OUT

The MDT XRS is an excellent platform for many shooters. Even for me, it’s one of my favorites. I have one on a 6mm BR PRS rig, and I absolutely love it. It combines the classic look of a traditional stock with the feel and modularity of a modern chassis. It balances performance, adaptability, and affordability—making it a strong choice for shooters who want versatility without sacrificing quality.
