SETTING UP AN FX DRS PRO MDT 700

Air rifles, often called pellet guns, are immortalized in popular culture thanks to one simple line, “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid.” However, while Ralphie was hoping for “an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle!” for Christmas, modern air guns are a different beast altogether. Modern Pre-Charged Pneumatic (PCP) rifles look alien compared to the classic Daisy Red Ryder. This new class of air rifles is a precision masterpiece that offers shooters an entirely new and different way to pursue their passions.

In a recent video, Lauryl, from the Long Range Lauryl YouTube channel, showcased the FX DRS Pro MDT 700 air rifle. However, the learning curve of operating a sophisticated PCP isn’t quite like picking up a new gun. To assist her, she called in Team MDT shooter Keith Baker.

In this video, Keith offers Lauryl tips and tricks for setting up and using an air rifle, while explaining key terminology related to air rifles. These terms include regulator, cylinder pressure gauge, air pressure, and bleed off. Although the gun has a learning curve, mounting the scope and adjusting the length of pull are the same as with any precision bolt gun. However, the inclusion of the MDT ACC variation makes the FX DRS Pro stand out. This gives the air rifle a similar look and feel to a shooter’s centerfire rig.

Precision shooting and hunting air rifles have gained significant popularity recently. Several states have even legalized big game hunting with these guns. More importantly, air rifles give shooters options to train or compete without the high costs normally involved. Everything is pricier in 2025. Whether it’s reloading components or factory ammo, the sport is less accessible for those on a tight budget. Air rifles provide a good middle ground. Even a high-end rig like this FX model (yes, it’s expensive) can save money over time for serious shooters. For more videos like this, check out Long Range Lauryl.
